First, you should always be cautious of your speed limit, as much as this could be dangerous to your life; it makes your car consume much more gas than when you run on a moderate speed. When going up the a hill try to watch it with the speed as gravity is opposing here so forcing through too fast will as well consume more gas especially if you have your Air Condition on but when coming down a hill gravity isn’t opposing here so you can as well let your car roll almost on its own without stepping much on the accelerator.

2. Turn On/Off AC

It might be imperative to note that air condition can make your car consume much more gas than we imagine, well this is also related to the type and condition of the car you are traveling with. Yes, we all know its dusty on the high way as well as the bad effect of passing wind so the windows should be up and you can’t suffocate inside the heat because you are trying to save gas but you can as well get the windows down to a comfortable level that won’t let in dust and won’t get you suffocated.

Driving through rough road or up the hill with your AC off will definitely save your engine some power pull. When you get into your car parked under the sun after a stopover, it's best to get the windows down for about 2minutes while driving before getting it up, then you can put on the AC until the temp is balanced then you can turn it off and get your windows to a comfortable level and you are good to go saving gas all the way. Generally it gets breezy when going on a moderate speed so you shouldn’t have issues except on a very hot summer period.

3. Tires Check

Before embarking on a road trip during your vacation or anytime, be sure to check the air pressure of your tires. This is very important as well in saving gas because it will definitely affect your speed. Be sure to have your tires checked to know if it needs to be replaced. This can be a major drawback in your speed thereby making you spend much more time on the road while going on that dream vacation.

4. General Vehicle Check-up

Never ignore this one, a general vehicle check up will save you gas and a lot of hassle on the way. Make effort to be certain about the efficiency of your engine because a good efficiency will go on to result an efficient gas usage that gets you a longer distance than the opposite. Check all fluid and oil and refill or change if necessary, this will see you to your destination in one peace saving you gas and hassle because if there is a break down and you need to fix something in the middle of no-where, turning engine off and off as well as driving and stopping being cautious of a particular problem will consume more gas that you can imagine.

5. Lightweight Packing

Its general knowledge that excess luggage can cause a huge pull on your engine which stresses it’s performance thereby consuming more gas. Depending on the type and spec of the car you are traveling with, excess luggage could decrease you gas mileage by 1 or more percent. Even if you have to go along with much stuff you possibly can’t do without, at least leveraging the use of lightweight bags as well as other packs than heavy weight boxes will go a long way to save you gas to a reasonable extent.

6. Braking and Accelerating

When driving always try to keep a steady foot on the accelerator as much as possible, unnecessary brake taps will make your engine consume more gas because you will need to hit the accelerator again to get you going on your safe speed so it is imperative to understand that every tap on the accelerator raises the engine and gas will definitely burn off fast if you are in the habit of braking every now and then especially when not necessary.

When you hit the accelerator pedal, that's when your car consumes more gas. So try to avoid the speed up, brake fast pattern so many road users are guilty of. Instead, try to coast at a continual speed. Keep the ride as smooth as possible to save on fuel.
